Overview
While predefined rulesets provide an excellent foundation, organizations often have unique standards and styling requirements for their APIs. APIGit’s custom rulesets and policies enable you to tailor governance to your specific organizational needs.
Custom Rule Profiles
Custom rule profiles allow you to create specialized sets of rules that reflect your organization’s specific API standards and requirements.
To create and manage custom rule profiles:
- Navigate to your Organization settings
- Select the Governance tab
- Create multiple custom ruleset profiles as needed
To modify an existing profile:
- Click the Edit button next to the profile name
- Add new rules or remove existing ones based on your requirements
- Save your changes to apply them across associated repositories
Custom Rule Policies
Custom policies determine which rule profiles apply to specific API repositories. This granular control accommodates different standards across your API ecosystem, as repositories may serve different purposes with varying requirements.
To set up custom policies:
- Navigate to your Organization settings
- Select the Governance tab
- Create policies that link repositories to appropriate ruleset profiles
Implementing Precision Governance
By combining custom rule profiles with targeted policies, you can implement precise governance strategies across your entire API landscape. This approach enables you to:
- Apply different standards to internal vs. external-facing APIs
- Enforce stricter security rules on sensitive APIs
- Implement graduated governance for APIs in different lifecycle stages
- Accommodate legacy APIs while enforcing modern standards on new developments
